Ertuğrul Kürkçü is a journalist and the Coordinator of Bia – The Independent Communication Network, a project that brings together more than 130 local newspapers and radio and television stations, and aims at getting a free and independent information.
The Bia News Center daily provides news and information related with the conditions and realities of the ordinary people who are generally neglected by the Turkish mainstream.
The project also supplies legal assistance and councel to local media. A very important part of the project is the BIANET website, which provides daily specialized coverage focusing on human rights, children’s rights, gender and minority issues, as well as reedited news and information from local media.
