Friday March 9th, 2007 22:05 On the ruins of the Ungdomshuset is the revenge of the danish movement: "Ground 69"

On the ruins of the Social Centre Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen – demolished the 1st of march – danish activist are setting up a tent-camp.
Those ruins, symbol of an “open wound” inflicted by the demolition of their Social Centre, help the activists to keep up the mobilitations for the battle for social spaces, strongly claiming for a new Social Centre, alternative to that demolished.
By claiming the need of a new space, they claim for the need of a free socialization and freedom of movement and - they underline – the strong will to obtain it in the same area of the Ungdomshuset, Noerrebro, where activists have built relations for 25 years.
The ground left empty after the demolition of the social centre has been renamed “Ground 69” (linking it to the “Ground Zero” in New York), in order to point out that although it is possible to pull down buildings and phisical structures,it is absolutely impossible to shut down the moltitude of people, the relations between them, and their claims for biopolitical needs, free spaces, rights and freedom of movements, for istance.
That gound – that has become “Ground 69” – is now the new point of referment and symbol of the activists of the Ungdomshuset, who start back and keep on fighting from here.

A big demo took place yesterday in Copenhagen, the widest of all those which took place during these days in Denmarck, after the eviction and demolition of the Ungdomshuset.
The demo ended in front of the city hall, where a concert was given to support the young activists, while many actions of protest, such as the occupation of a little island in the sea of Copenhagen, spread out spontaneously in the all city.
Tomorrow, the 10th of march, the big manifestation which Ungdomshuset’s activists immediately called will take place. There are big expectations around the demonstration of tomorrow, that aims to defend all the spaces of freedom, freedom of movement, and to force local institutions and administrators to face directly this social reality.
Activists, therefore, demand a new Social Center, exclusive condition to the stop all actions and movements of protest.
