Wang Hui

Monday March 12th, 2007

Wang Hui is the director of the important chinese magazine Dushu.
After the Tien An Men Square protest in 1989, he’s been exiled for one year in one of the China’s most poor areas, in the Sha’anxi’s mountains.
In 1990 has been published his first book “The rebellion against desperation. Lu Xun and his world.“, in 1993 has been published a collection of essays dedicated to “4th May movements”.
In 1997 his Self-Selected Essays has been a great impact on young Chinese intellectuals. In that period, Wang Hui started to discuss on the dominants opinion af the Chinese intellighenzia. His works on the ‘modernization’ appeared afterward under the title “Reignite the frozen fire“ (1999).
The hard social critic that appeared in this work, has hurted the supporters of liberalism, in China that today has to face with a hard disaffect and with the occurance of a ‘New Left’. In the Spring of 2000 this expression became very important, because the discussions on what direction would have to take the country, achieved harder tones. Wang Hui has been at the center of this conflict, with an essay in two volumes recently published, “Born of modern China’s thought“.
Manifestolibri has recently published his book “China’s new order. Society, politics, and economy in transition.”.
