Ashanti Alston Omowali is an anarchic activist, political activist and writer, former member of the Black Panther Party.
Even though the party doesn’t exist anymore, Alston talks about himself as a Black Panther and looks at that experience as the starting point of his political education. He was member of the Black Liberation Army and he spent ten years in jail, after being arrested and sentenced for armed robbery.
He was coordinator of Critical Resistance, i.e. an American national supporting organisation for prisoners and for the elimination of the prison system in the and in the whole world.
He’s now member of the national committee of the National Jericho Movement for the liberation of political prisoners in the , as well as member of the pro-zapatist coloured pople organization “Estación Libre” and of the The Institute for Anarchist Studies.
