A new alliance against war. Movements between multilateral war and new conflicts for democracy

"This meeting talks about the issues of wars and of movements against war. We close this meeting, but we close it to open up a discussion because the message we want to give is that of keeping on going against the permanent global war. The meaning of the interventions of these persons today is not to represent something or someone in particular, nor we want to represent any kind of synthesis. We want to build thousands of ways to make resistance. We have an important aim, which is to strongly launch from the bottom the struggle agaisnt permanent global war, even when it is represented by different faces. We have discussed in these days of the passage from the USA’s unilateralism to a moltilateralism. The permanent global war is an exercise of command, it is a costruction of imposed societies which has its symbols in the military occupation and in the iraq’s and afghanistan’s tragedies, but whose functions go further more than those. The war is no more a war between States, but it is an army of global police. The unilateralism has been defeated because they have not been able to impose us the silence, nor in Iraq, nor in our own cities and towns."

"What worries most, it is when people get used to war. Nowadays war is the choise to solve all our pains. We are seeing an increasing militarisation. You just have to read newspapers and you find loads of articles about planes, elicopters and weapons everyday more dangerous and more aggressive - which are then described as defence’s weapons beacuse what matters most is to bring back home alive all the soldiers - and this is really worring me because we are going towards the barbarians and I cannot see any limits coming from the politics. I am not passionate for italian politic because, from my point of view, the political class in Italy, from Bertinotti to Pino Rauti, has a common base: being servants of the USA. There is no doubt about this, everybody agrees.
[…] We certainly are an anomaly, even Rammatullah is an anomaly. Now he is kept by Governamental secret services, but in 2001 had already been arrested by Talebans. I believe that neutrality and independence are fundamental bases to work efficently and to be reliable. We do not take a position for those who used violence. Rather, we try to give a different messege and this disturbs a lot, as much as the fact that a humanitarian organization is able to lead, and with partial success,to the liberation of the journalist of "Repubblica" Daniele Mastrogiacomo..The fact that a humanitarian organization succeded in such a operation, which would have been impossible for the official Politic- disturbs."

Francesco Pavin - Movement againist the U.S.A. military airport "Dal Molin" - Vicenza
"The medias of the past months has described the movement in Vicenza as a anti-political movement because it has strongly underlined that the representance, both in local and central levels, is no more able to express a mediation. In the debates of these days there has been many words such as war, democracy, rebellion. Vicenza is an outpost of the Empire, it is a garrison city and not only because of the presence of military structures. The war is in Vicenza, in a territory which is 50 km away from here."

"We are facing a total crisis of the representance, actually we see an autonomy of the representant from the represented.
All the process goingon into the politic environment have the same print, there is a march going higher which is the detack of the representance, and there is a march towards the centre, which says no to Bush’s wars, but agrees with the ONU’s ones, it says no to economical politics of Berlusconi, but agrees to those of Padoa Schioppa.
What interests me is that 98,98% of the Parliament agrees with the intervention in Afghanistan. This Parliament does not represent the country in doing this choice. The fear of a retourning of Berlusconi is creating a sort of block in the italin politics."

"The movement against the war, or for the peace, has the syindrome of fear. We are scared of loosing, of being a minority, of not having political power. It does not concern us to substaine this government. It is not our goal and it is not the style of movement for peace, to worry about substaining a government. The 12 points of the Prodi’s government has been a sort of worring passage, from our point of view. And this is because it has been said that "we won’t discuss anymore" around some topics."

Lele Rizzo - No Tav movement
"I was listaning to some intervents and many thoughts came into my mind. I won’t tell again the story of the No Tav movement because there is no need to do it. Some elements are extremely important. About the question of representance, what came out from our movement from something new: we are a movement first of all, we struggled and then we thought about the problem of representance. Straight after the agreement around the 12 points of Prodi’s purpose,where the construction of the railway is at the third point, from all the 3 permanent garrisons, the flags of the parties have been removed. They were the flags of the parties that came to do their electoral campaign and that people were supporting, and they have been all removed from our camps."

"As it was stated these days, war is not just a far element, a stranger, it’s nevertheless a complex action which takes place in every space and moment of our lives and it’s an element of "robbering" and "stealing" of resources in our territories. "A meeting had place in Trieste yesterday, in which No tav comitees, anti gas-converters comitees, and several other comitees who start talking of eniviromental defense and end up talking of defense of common good gathered to discuss. These comitees joined together a solidarity deal that assumes the same meaning of a deal for mutuos aid in a national level. We have launched straight a mobilitation for the 12th of may in Trieste, as it will be the closing day of the "G8 substainable development", an arm of the Rostock’s G8."

"I believe that the workers movements has had an historically extraordinary function against the war, excapt maybe in the last 15 years, in which only some vangards (base’s sindacalism, some part of the FIOM) has re-descovered a general function of the workers movements against the war. This aknowledgement is not something obvious, in fact it comes from the consciousness tof how much wars attack the workers’ rights. We will promote again a general strike when the building machinery will arrive in Vicenza."

"I really like the definition of Anomaly, I really feel comfortable in it for several reasons. Those which Luca explained before that allow me to respond to all those who told me: "You cannot expect to represent the pacifist movement", indeed I never did expect this. My own "NO" to all armed missions of Italy in the world, comes from a peculiar point of view which is pacifist and non violent.I have started from this statement, I think that there are questions, such as peace and war, but also torture and death penalty, that should be put out of any ordinary repertory of political decisions. Values and goods that are not available for mediations and political debate. When I have asked the decision to send someone to go and kill or be killed to be a free decision, I have asked for freedom of choice for each single member of the Parliament."

Conclusions by Luca Casarini - Social Center of North East
"I want to thank everybody because we could manage to build the starting point of a discussion, as wide as possible and the more open we could. Certain is the fact that we’re all animated, and many others but us, by being in movement against war. There’s a right of Global resistance which is coming out in thousands of ways, and it’s that one which makes the opening of practical spaces possible,autonomy as exodus,as construction, not only like resitance. There is no date to launch, because it would mean that this discussion never had place, we need to get backa proper mechanism for this phase of the war, which has its own times. I finally believe that we shall say that all of us who fight for a dream, for a desire, are not alone."
