COMUNICATIONS

We will be everywhere

Thursday April 26th, 2007
G8 circus is about to land in Europe and from June 6th to 8th it will hold its own personal show in Heilegendamm, Germany.

As it happened during past years’ summits, this “seditious meeting” of world’s powers is to take place in an isolated place, right in the middle of German woods and close to the Atlantic ocean. The choice of isolation is of course a consequence of the successful mobilisations that characterized the so-called no-global struggles, such as Seattle’s, Prague’s and Genoa’s.

Many European (and elsewhere’s) activists are getting ready to converge to Heilegendamm from the first days of June in order to organise actions and initiatives against the summit. Mobilisations wish to activate innovative forms of struggle. And the political spirit that crosses them is new as well. First of all, because the concept the lays beneath the idea of contestation has been shared in many international assemblies and it does not focus upon the idea of assaulting the red zone. It actually takes inspiration from the recent struggles that occurred in European metropolises and through out the world. Effectiveness of mobilisation goes together with direct actions, which blockade goods and mobility flows. We are for instance referring to 2002 strike of American harbours, Argentinean’s piqueteros, Latinos’ Mayday in USA, French conflicts inside banlieues and against Cpe and most recently to the mobilisation against the eviction and demolition of Ungdomshuset in Denmark.
The idea of blocking the G8 comes from such conflicts, from the cooperation among different movement’s networks. The attempt is to block all G8 access roads the day the summit starts. If this is the strategy movements are assuming, tactics will imply flexibility and mobility: to become effective we need to be ready to change plans and to take on different actions. This means that being nomadic is to be the movement’s practice. Another important issue is the effort German activists are putting in the building of mutual support dynamics among different area of the movement. There won’t anymore be “identity blockades”. Multitudes shall stick together in struggles that strengthen differences in reciprocal cooperation.

We will be everywhere!
