Thursday June 3rd, 2004 00:00 Trains for Rome: The corrispondences from the train stations

At the stations of Trieste and Milan the police and carabineiri tried to block the departure of the activists heading for Rome with heavy clashing.

The first corrispondences inform us that the protestors have affirmed their right to get on the trains even though the state railways are asking for 30 euro each.

There have been beatings of a few people between the tracks. The group was then able to gather together, pushing against the police and taking over the train, which then departed towards the other destinations in the North-East.

In Milan more than 200 activists, for the major part students, met in the central station of the city. At the begining, the police checked the bags and backpacks, but then the activists got onto the train in mass. Out of the blue, the police began clashing with the students from the local social center "Cantiere" that were still on the ground organizing the departure.

The climate in the central station is very trense because of the harsh billy-club beatings by the police. The train is blocked on the tracks.

The train from Milan has now departed, only after the activists were subject to various provocations and violent acts on the part of the DIGOS (Italian investigative police), especially after they found a few spray paint cans in some of the bags. The train company Trenitalia is still asking for 30 euro each for the trip.

The trains that will reach Rome have departed from many different cities in Italy, from Palermo passing for Naples tomorrow morning at 6.00 in the central station.

The train from the North East at 1.30 am is still blocked in the station with hundrends already aboard. Trenitalia is demanding that the 30 euro per person is payed.
