Friday June 18th, 2004 00:00 Not here, not anywhere: Block of the construction of the CPT of Gradisca D’Isonzo

11.55 am - Today, in occasion of the national mobilizations for immigrant rights and against the CPTs, around 100 activists entered into the "Center for temporary residence" under consruction in Gradisca D’Isonzo in the province of Gradisca, using an ex-military base. An enormous CPT that will host from 200-250 people.
The activists gave life to a direct and concrete action against the surrounding fence, symbolically striking it with sledgehammers and grassroots sanctioning the structure, from jamming the machinary to pulling down buildign supports. After having exited from the CPT a press conference was held outside. The initiative would like to denounce the construction work continues to be done despite the delarations last January, when Illy (the president of the region), Pisanu (national minister), and the now ex-mayor Fabbris, assured that the work had been stopped.

The area is gigantic, an "avant-guard" CPT that could hold entire families. The people who end up in the CPTs have not commited any illegal act.

The initiatie was promotted by the Tavolo migranti nazionale, Rete precariato sociale, the Association Razzismo Stop of Padua, the social center La Chimica of Verona, the Sportelli degli Invisibili of the northeast, the social center Magazzino 47 of Brescia, the Comitato M21 of Treviso, Slovenian activists, and the disobbedienti of the northeast.
