Middle East: Can there be a future of rights against war, occupation, apartheid and fundamentalism?

Michele Giorgio - 71.9 kbMichele Giorgio – Journalist
"I’d like to start saying that american unilateralism was defeated and so we need to understand how these policies have been defeated in Iraq and in the Middle East. American domination still is very present and powerful. Arab regimes contribute to this policy: for example, in the last arab sumit, where the grounds for a dialogue between arabs and Israel were put, although with great care to the palestinian refugees that Israel refuse to recognize.
This is absolutely not a new phase.
The palestinian government in office accepts the line between al fatah and hamas. Hamas still mantains the social cabinets which allow a control over the civil society."

"The problem of the destruction of palestinian society is not that of information, because, however difficult, it is possible to be informed. The problem is that, during the last years, hate towards Islam, related to the fear of mass immigration, which has deep roots, prevailed. And that the sense of guilt towards Israel prevailed. That’s the reason why it is so dificult now to speak about the problems in Middle East: because the policy of Israel is not only of conflict against Palestine but also against all the other country in that area. These feelings find their source and their nourishment in the true essence of the israel policy, i.e. neocolonialism."

Alaa Abd El Fattah - 60.3 kbAlaa Abd El Fattah - Activist and webmaster of www.manalaa.net - Egypt
"The arab conflict doesn’t consider only Palestina and Israel. The idea of Middle East it’s not only this, but it considers always countries as Iraq and Turkey. The movement i belong to, it was born in this contest, for and against this conflict. I was born after the signment of the peace treatment, after the end of this conflict, and this had a lot of influences on my life. They alway talk about a war in the past, but in reality this war is never finished.
In Egypt the situation is linked to the hard and internal repression and to the difficulties that are living the movements now.
Also in muslims countries, and also in Egypt, the national policies are dictated from internal organisms like FMI, and the battles that born directly from this policies, create war common fronts also with organizations that are different between themselves. Students wars’ for democracy have alway been important in Egypt and took their real role in these years."

Uri Gordon - 50.2 kbUri Gordon – Anarchists against the wall – Israel
"We are all anarchists against the wall! For us Joint Struggle it means direct action. We have to understand that the war beteen Israel and Palestine it’s now in reality a war between the state of Israel and Palestine.
Our movement moves itself from city to city, where we have been called and been radicated, trying to make direct actions but also meditating about the "unendurable differences" between us.
The libertarian and indisciplined character of the movements it’s the innovator heart of the practices and of the political behaviours. In the psycology of the mass in Israel there is a collective trauma that with the victimism try to give itself justifications. To help the struggle of palestine it’s need talking to the ebraic movements without preconceptions."

Musthapha Barghouti - 60.5 kbMusthapha Barghouti – Almubadara - Palestine
"The formation of a new national Palestine government has meant the prevention of the civil war and so the possibility of a peace negotiation. It also means the retake of a strong arabic initiative and the comprehension of the necessity of a global solution for the Israel-Palestine issue.
This government doesn’t involve only principal political parties but moreover the entrance of little parties and social movements, and now it represents the whole people of Palestine, including all its differences.
The government platform talks about democracy as its fundamental principle, about the respect of human rights, of women and of their political participation, about the neutrality of the information system, and of the protection of a free media and free information.
We, the Palestine people, have the right to resist to any occupation authorized by the international law. Therfore, we ask the end of violence with a mutual and total agreement, so if the Israelian people are willing to not attack us again we will stop any attack continuing to resist at the military occupation.
If Israel finishes the occupation and accepts the indipendent Palestine nation within the borders established in 1967, with east Gerusalem as capital, and with a solution for refugees according to the 194 resolution on United Nation, only then we will recognize Israel as a state according to the arabic proposal. But Israel doesn’t accept these agreements. Without a strong international pressure on the Israel state there won’t be peace. Israel doesn’t want to negociate because it is not interested in finding a solution, and it wants to continue with the apartheid, which has been created in these years.
At first they began to increase the insediaments and checks points, built to protect them, and now they are building a wall that attends only to divide the Palestine people, to include their lands and to forbid the creation of a Palestine state.
We are determinated to be free and indipendent and we are ready to take this freedom and indipendence with our own hands.
