Today, June 2nd, was the official opening day of the initiatives against G8 in Rostock. An international demonstration took place and 100,000 people participated.
There two different meeting points, but everyone started the march at about 1.00 p.m.. The demonstration’s final destination was the harbour area. When demonstrators were getting inside the square at the harbour, police started charging into the demo. Mass arrests were pursued.
People raised their hands and also barricades. They used cars to protect themselves and launched stones as well. The demo remained unmoved. Witnesses refer of harmed demonstrators.
At about 3.30 p.m., the situation chilled down and police moved to the square’s edge.
At the same time groups of demonstrators left the square to action against capitalism symbols.
At 5.00 p.m. clashes start back. Police try to close all harbour’s side streets. Police use tear gas. At 5.30 p.m. police enter the square, where the demo’s final happening was taking place. Police charge into the demonstration and throw tear gas. Special police squads run after and discretionally arrest demonstrators.
According to main stream media, around 100 cops got hurt.
During the march the movement’s area of the demo launched smoke candles and hurled stones towards police tanks where cops were provoking people from.
According to the Legal team 200 demonstrators were arrested.
Rav (Lawyers’ Repubblican Association) declared that the arrested were being threatened, isolated and hurt. Many were denied the right to call Legal team. Rav also says that police charged into Legal team’s lawyers. German law states that in case of arrest people are obliged to give their generals in front of members of parliament and lawyers. Berlin police’s units 23 and 25 are known to be the most aggressive and brutal.
In the evening some light clashes took place. Five water cannons and a sweeping tank stopped a small demo that was moving towards the house of detention in solidarity towards detainees. Helicopters are flying over Rostock.
Inside the camping everyone is quite, people rest and cheer over resistance. They all say: it’s just the beginning.

Today’s nazi meeting and the antifascist demonstrations, which were supposed to happen in Schwerim, were denied authorisations. Police stopped and questioned demonstrators outside town.
Antifascists that managed to reach Schwerim were surrounded by police outside railway station. The square was then emptied.
Demonstrators were blocked and 150 were arrested. Some are underage.
In the meanwhile, nazis were free to organise two presences in Berlin, in front of Brandeburger Tor, and in Güstow.
