Today, November 3rd 2006, with two linked actions we have taken action against precarity and for the immediate closing of all CPT/Migrant’s Dentention Centres.
In Venice we have occupied the the "Future of Work" Meeting’s conference room where a press conference was taking place by the presence of various European Ministrers.
In Florence we have occupied the headquarters of “Misericordia”, an organization that holds the agreements for the management of most of Italian CPTs (Temporary Permanence Center) as in Lampedusa, Modena and Bologna.
In Venice ministers, specialists, trade unionists, were meeting to define the main guide lines of politics about work, so we decided to stop this meeting, because there is not any possible mediation on our lives, and because it is clear to everybody that neo-liberal policy is no more exclusive ground of the centre-right wing (to tell the truth, it’s never been).
The cuts made on education, universities, hiring, the non-willing of delete the Treu-Biagi law have deep roots, and all those now appear to precarious workers as unacceptable outrage.
In Venice Minister Damiano (the Italian Minister of Work) refused to face the discussion and required the immediate evacuation of the building. Police attempted to clear out the hall with truncheons, but this was not enough to stop our protest.
In Florence we occupied the headquarters of “Misericordia” because we think that the time is over.
There’s no more time to argue with so-called “Humanitarian” organizations if managing these detention camps is right or not. There’s no more time to listen every time about false promises from politicians telling us that “one day something’s goin to change”
CPTs are full of people that we’re not going to leave to their destiny.
CPTs are control’s and freedom’s deprivation devices belonging to a system in which everyone of us is forced to live. They are a system in which precariety of live is linked to rights privation, in which security logics generate discrimination, fear, injustice.
CPTs ‘managers till now gained a lot of money with this vile job. As mercenary soldiers with the war they are accomplice in what is going on. They have not excuse. They should assume the responsibility of such shameful places being aware that any “humanitarian” or “christian” motivation can hide this shame. Chains, cages, violence, and the desperation created because of these detention centers can’t be hidden anymore. In Florence the occupation uncovered the management’s plan on CPTs for the year 2007: it’s clear that these mercenaris have not any intention to give up theyr management’s agreements.
Government announced a future increase of the expenses related to CPT’s management.
For Prodi’s Government and its so-called “radical” parts, there’s no more excuses, nor hideaways.
CPTs have to be closed now, precariety of our lives needs guaranteed income and dignity, and we’re not going to give up this battle, not for political convenience, not fo governability, not for power games!
