Lǝ attivistǝ del Meeting Europeo per la giustizia climatica e sociale domenica mattina alle ore 8.00 hanno occupato l’area dell’ex fabbrica Lanerossi dei Ferrovieri a Vicenza dove verrà ospitata l’ultima aassemblea plenaria del meeting. I tavoli di lavoro previsti nell’incontro sono cominciati venerdì sera per concludersi domenica mattina e sono stati toccati temi che riguardano giustizia climatica, la critica al colonialismo e l’antirazzismo. "Per l’ultima tappa del meeting si è voluto dare un segnale forte contro grandi opere, cementificazione e consumo di suolo: l’area dell’ex Lanerossi verrà travolta dal progetto TAV. È prevista la costruzione di una nuova strada che attraverserà il quartiere dei Ferrovieri portando altro inquinamento in città. All’interno dell’ex fabbrica sorgerà un cantiere di 11.400 m2 che verrà utilizzato come parcheggio mezzi e stoccaggio di materiali da costruzione riducendo l’area all’ennesimo piazzale di cemento. Con il progetto TAV a Vicenza sorgeranno molti nuovi cantieri che consumeranno suolo e grandi quantità di energia, per scaricare sulla città enormi quantità di CO2 e polveri sottili. Il disagio per le persone che saranno costrette a convivere con questa realtà per almeno 10 anni sarà enorme, il bilancio climatico estremamente svantaggioso visto che si calcola che i gas serrà immessi nell’atmosfera per la costruzione di quest’opera verranno ammortati in più di cinquanta’anni. Stiamo vivendo il collasso del clima ed è fondamentale fermare la costruzione di grandi opere inutili e costose. Con l’occupazione di oggi lǝ attiviste hanno voluto dare un chiaro segnale: l’area della Lanerossi, come il resto del territorio, verranno difesi da chi vuole trarre profitto dalla cementificazione selvaggia. Chiunque proverà a distruggere l’ambiente con cemento e grandi opere dovrà fare i conti una strenua resistenza".
Activists of the European Meeting for social and climate justice sunday morning at 8 a.m. climate justice activists occupied the ex-Lanerossi factory buildings in Ferrovieri, Vicenza, which will host the last plenary assembly of the meeting. The working groups started on Friday evening and will finish on Sunday morning; the main topics are climate justice, antiracism and criticism on colonialism. The final assembly will take place in the current squatted area.
Quoting the activists:
“The last step of the meeting wants to give a big signal against major works, uncontrolled overbuilding and land consumption. The ex Lanerossi area will be devastated by the TAV project, which is expected to increase even more urban pollution by the construction of a new road that will go through the Ferrovieri neighbourhood. Inside the ex factory, a construction site of 11.400 m2 will be created and used as a parking area for transports and as a storage site of construction supplies which will be reduced to another cemented space. Because of the TAV project in Vicenza large quantities of energy and soil will be consumed, enormous amounts of CO2 and fine particles will be discharged. The citizens will suffer the distress caused by coexisting with such a reality for at least 10 years, the environmental impact will be extremely disadvantageous since the greenhouse gas that will be released in the athmosphere will perhaps be counterbalanced in 50 years. We are experiencing a climate collapse, therefore it is fundamental to put a stop to the construction of useless and costly major works. Today’s squatting wants to deliver a clear message: the ex Lanerossi area, as the rest of the territory, will be defended from whoever wants to profit from aggressive overbuilding. Whomever will try to destroy the environment will have to face fierce resistance”.
