The Venice Process

The Venice Process è un progetto in progress che mira ad offrire un modello educativo alternativo, realizzato e riconosciuto da una rete di istituzioni internazionali operanti nel campo dell’arte.
Diversi eventi collegati al progetto -tra cui performance, seminari e workshop- si sono svolti a Venezia nel periodo di apertura della Biennale e culmineranno nella presentazione di un corso sul tema arte ed ecologia, che si terrà dal 20 al 24 novembre alla Fondazione Gervasutti e a S.a.L.E. Docks. Il corso, aperto e gratuito, sarà inoltre accompagnato da una serie di eventi e performance sul tema dell’ecologia e dell’educazione alternativa.
Tra questi una barca-sauna, opera degli artisti Harold de Bree, Laut Rosenbaum e Nick Tulinen, che si muoverà per Venezia, dando la possibilità a tutti coloro che vorranno farne uso di riflettere sul tema dei cambiamenti climatici.

The Venice Process sarà presentato anche alla Five Years Gallery di Londra dal 28 Novembre al 1 Dicembre 2013.

Programma:

16.00: Presentazione del film “Towards a Militant Conceptualism” di Seemab Gul. Presentato da Andris Brinkmanis (critico e curatore indipendente).

16.30: Workshop “Hug the system!” a cura di Worm e Roodkapje, collettivi artistici di Rotterdam. Con la partecipazione di Comitato No Grandi Navi.

19.00 – 24.00: It’s Sauna Time! Aperitivo + party in occasione della chiusura della Biennale 2013. Dj set a cura di Worm e Roodkapje, con un intervento di Paolo Camia.

Gli eventi:

- – SOS Sauna Boat (Harold de Bree, Laut Rausenbaum, Nick Tulinen). I tre artisti hanno riutilizzato una barca esistente installandovi un sistema a GPL e una sauna. L’opera sarà aperta al pubblico e si muoverà tra vari luoghi di Venezia. Obiettivo degli artisti è quello di favorire una riflessione sul tema dei cambiamenti climatici.


- – Body of Water (Jaakko Mattila e Antti Tenetz) è un progetto in progress, realizzato in collaborazione con Joan of Art (progetto di educazione alternativa www.joanofart.net), il cui scopo è quello di visualizzare flussi di dati remoti in un contesto espositivo, consentendo al pubblico di interagire direttamente con l’opera innescando sensori che modificano le informazioni inviate ad uno schermo principale.

- – Artist Taxi Driver (Mark McGowan). L’artista continua la sua serie di video (pubblicati nel canale youtube http://www.youtube.com/user/chunkymark) in cui, alla guida di un taxi, discute di temi d’attualità con i passeggeri. Questa volta la performance avrà luogo a Venezia e riguarderà le tematiche dell’ecologia e dell’ educazione.

- – Stop, Motion. Paolo Camia presenta una performance incentrata sul movimento, il corpo e l’educazione, ispirata al passaggio giornaliero degli avventori al J Bar, situato all’interno della sede della Fondazione Gervasutti a Venezia.

- – Towards a Militant Conceptualism (Verso un Concettualismo Militante) è un film di Seemab Gul, scritto in collaborazione con Mike Watson, sull’utilizzo dell’arte come strumento di lotta politica nella società contemporanea. Il film indaga esperienze personali di protesta, in relazione alle istituzioni statali e mira a problematizzare le origini della legge. Il progetto vuole essere una considerazione sul tema della protesta e le sue relazioni con l’arte, per arrivare alla proposta di un’arte come forma di protesta.

- – Hug the system! WORM e Roodkapje, collettivi artistici di Rotterdam, presentano un seminario-workshop. Il programma è parte di The Ridiculum della Worm Parallel University e di De-Activism, progetti del collettivo WORM (wpu.worm.org). Obiettivo degli incontri è quello di incoraggiare i partecipanti a mettere in dubbio i sistemi educativi esistenti, acritici ed omologati e di sviluppare strategie per scardinarli, come il cortocircuito, l’incidente, il parassitismo e la bugia funzionale. Tutto ciò per allontanare le nostre vite professionali dal campo della burocrazia e dei tanti altri sistemi dittatoriali imposti. La Worm Parallel University crede fortemente che l’interazione tra persone sia l’unica garanzia di una formazione di qualità.
Parteciperanno: Hajo Doorn (responsabile della Worm Parallel University), Eric de Hartigh (Mister Roodkapje), Aline Yntema (curatrice, artista), Amy Wu (media attivista), Tim Braakman (designer), Joost Bult (performer) e Nikki Rosa Ootjers (artista/performer).


L’evento è organizzato nel contesto di Joan of Art (http://joanofart.net/), un progetto curato da Mike Watson.

ENGLISH VERSION

The Venice Process aims at offering an alternative education and accreditation system offered by a network of international art institutions. Events – including performances, seminars and workshops – have spanned the Venice Biennale, culminating in the presentation of a free course in art and ecology and a series of events around the theme of ecology and alternative education from November 20-24, 2013.
Simultaneously, a boat which has been recycled and modified to run on LPG and incorporate a sauna by artists Harold de Bree, Laut Rosenbaum and Nick Tulinen will be available to use for the public where it will run regularly from locations across Venice, providing an opportunity for reflection on the theme of climate change.
The Venice Process will appear at Five Years gallery, London, from 28th November to 1st December 2013 for four days of seminars and performances.

Synopsis of Events
SOS Sauna Boat — Harold de Bree, Laut Rausenbaum, Nick Tulinen. As described above.
Body of Water — Jaakko Mattila and Antii Tenetz. Body of Water is ongoing research project in collaboration with Joan of Art that aims aim to visualise remote visual and data feeds in an exhibition context, enabling the audience to interact directly with the piece by triggering remote sensors that will change the information fed to a centralised screen.
Artist taxi Driver – Mark McGowan the artist taxi driver will continue his youtube sketches from a Venice Taxi, discussing themes of ecology, free education and the Venice Biennale.
Stop, Motion. — Paolo Camia. Paolo Camia, practitioner and teacher of the Feldenkrais Method will present a performance around the themes of movement, the body and education, responding to the daily movement of revellers in the J Bar, Gervasuti Foundation’s bar area.
Towards a Militant Conceptualism is a film by Seemab Gul, co-written by Mike Watson, dealing with the political capacity of art in the contemporary world. The film explores personal experiences of protest, dealing with agents of the State and questioning the origins of law. This project is an open argument on protest and its relationship to art ending with the proposition of art as a form of protest.
Worm and Roodkapje at S.a.L.E. Docks — Hug the System! WORM and Roodkapje (Little Red Riding Hood) from Rotterdam will present a varied program, that consists of lectures, performances, workshops and entertainment. The program will be part of the Ridiculum of the WORM Parallel University and it’s De-Activism manifesto (wpu.worm.org). In this series of events we will encourage an teach people to develop strategies on how to dismantle systems by promoting systemical detours, acts of parasitism, avoiding responsibilty, andfunctional lieing. Al in favor of gaining our professional lifes back from the bureacrats, auditocrats en other dictatorial accreditation obligations. The WORM Parallel University strongly believes the interaction between people is the only guarantee fro educational succes. Together with our sisters from Roodkapje we will use every means nescessairy to get to our goal. This will include an intensive on site research in Venice and professional hugging capacities.
